Members of the Committee

There are currently nine committee members, led by Holger Marschall who acts as chairman.

Collectively we have experience in a wide range of multiphase flow modelling and methods as well as application area:

  • Holger Marschall: Interface-Capturing and Interface-Tracking methods for multiphase flows with fluid interfaces, interfacial transport processes.
  • Martin Sommerfeld: Eulerian-Lagrangian methods for particulate flows, particle-wall collisions, bubble-bubble interaction.
  • Alex Rattner: Heat and mass transfer, phase-change models within the Volume-Of-Fluid methodology.
  • Daniel Deising: Heat and mass transfer within the Volume-Of-Fluid methodology.
  • Mirco Magnini: Heat and mass transfer in multiphase flows, bubbly flows.
  • Tomislav Marić: Geometrical Volume-Of-Fluid method, hybrid Level Set/Front Tracking method.
  • Alberto Passalacqua: Eulerian Eulerian methods for particulate flows, polydispersity.
  • Henning Scheufler: Heat and mass transfer, phase-change models within the Volume-Of-Fluid methodology.
  • Zeljko Tukovic: Interface-Tracking methods.
  • Bin Xie: Advanced Schemes for Interface Capturing

Objective of the Committee

Long-term objective is to

establish OpenFOAM as a versatile and mature platform for multiphase flow simulations.

To achieve this, the committee's mission is to

  • foster community engagement
  • bundle and coordinate joint work in a transparent and structured manner
  • join and unify community-driven developments and guide them until code release

How to Contact Us

To contact the committee, we suggest that you open an issue on the OpenFOAM Gitlab, where you report problems, provide feedback, or describe your potential contribution. Additionally, please send one of the members an e-mail and CC the chair and co-chair.

Issues relevant to multiphase are likely to get picked up by the committee for discussion, but the dialogue can commence already in the comments to the issue.

Our Workflow

The committee holds regularly online meetings typically lasting about two hours. In between the meetings, we carry out planned activities and keep in touch via online collaboration tools.

Important parts of our work are:

  • formulating code improvement proposals to the Steering Committee, which makes the final decision
  • running a code repository associated with the committee.

The purpose of the multiphase committee repository is to stage potential contributions to the main code and also preserve codes that are removed from the official code base but may still be of interest to some parts of the community.

Implemented Contributions

What follows is a list of new multiphase modelling features that were introduced into the code with the help of the committee. For more details, please follow the links.
